Wellbeing Tip: Try Alternating Nostril Breathing
Feeling stressed or out of balance? A quick way to reset is with alternating nostril breathing (Nadi Shodhana). It’s a super simple practice that helps calm your mind and body in just a few minutes. This is especially helpful when anxiety (or similar difficult emotions) hit and feel overwhelming.
How to Do It:
- Sit comfortably, in a dignified posture, with your shoulders relaxed.
- Using your dominant hand (for instance, if you’re right-handed), gently close your right nostril with your thumb.
- Inhale slowly through your left nostril.
- Close your left nostril with your right ring finger and release your thumb, exhaling slowly and fully through your right nostril.
- Inhale through your right nostril, then close it again with your thumb, exhaling slowly and fully through your left nostril.
- Repeat for about 5-10 rounds, keeping your breathing smooth, steady, and focusing on slow exhalations to enhance relaxation.
- As you breathe, notice how no new tension builds up when you inhale, and any existing tension is released as you exhale.
Benefits
This simple breathing technique helps balance the nervous system, reduce anxiety, and boost focus. It’s a simple way to reset and feel more grounded.
Give it a try next time you need to clear your head and regain your balance.
I hope this was helpful!
